Yolanda Diz-Chaves, PhD
Center of Biomedical Research
University of Vigo
Spain

25 September 2018
3:30-4:45 pm
CBBM Building, 4F, Roof Library Lounge

Yolanda Diz-Chaves began her scientific career in 1997, at the laboratory of Endocrine Physiology, in the Functional Biology and Health Sciences Department, at the University of Vigo in Spain. In that laboratory she did her Master of Sciences (1997‐1999) and her Doctoral Thesis (1999‐2003). From 2003 to 2005, she completed her postdoctoral training at the Victor Ségalen Bordeaux 2 University (France) for working in the Laboratory of “Homéostasie‐Allostasie‐Pathologie” studying the relation between stress an obesity.

From 2005‐2013, she worked at the Laboratory of Neuroactive Steroids, at the Cajal Institute (CSIC) in Madrid. She was funded by the European Project "EWA: Estrogens and Women Aging" (May 2006‐April 2008), obtaining the contract for the incorporation of researchers (JAE, doctors; CSIC, co‐financed by European Social Fund). During this period she studied the neuroprotective effects of neurosteroids in animal models of neuroinflammation as the prenatal stress model.

From 2014‐present, she has been working as Postdoctoral Senior Researcher in the Laboratory of Endocrinology (Center of Biomedical Research (CINBIO), University of Vigo). Since 2017 she obtained the contract for emergent researcher in CINBIO funded by Xunta de Galicia. She studies the extrapancreatic effects of GLP-1 in the regulation of metabolism and the neuroprotective effects in a prenatal stress model of diabesity.

Liad Mudrik, PhD
School of Psychological Sciences / Sagol School of Neuroscience
Tel Aviv University
Israel

21 July 2017
1:30-2:30 pm
CBBM Building, 4F, Roof Library Lounge

Dr. Mudrik started her academic career as student of the interdisciplinary program for outstanding students. She completed two Ph.D. dissertations at Tel Aviv University: her Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience (psychology department) focused on the role of consciousness and attention in processing contextual violations, under the guidance of Prof. Dominique Lamy and Prof. Leon Deouell from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her Ph.D. in philosophy was a descriptive-deconstructive analysis of the mind-body problem in neuroscience under the supervision of Prof. Marcelo Dascal. She then continued to a postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology. There, she worked in the lab of Prof. Christof Koch in the division of biology, and in the lab of Prof. Ralph Adolphs in the division of humanities and social sciences. In 2015, she began her appointment as a faculty member in Tel Aviv University’s school of psychological science and the Sagol school of neuroscience.

Prof. Charlotte Ling, PhD
Head of Research Unit Epigenetics and Diabetes
Department of Clinical Sciences
Lund University Diabetes Center

20 June 2017
3:00-4:30 pm
CBBM Building, 4F, Roof Library Lounge

Dr. Charlotte Ling is a Professor at Lund University and a principle investigator of the Epigenetics and Diabetes Unit at Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC), Sweden. She obtained her PhD in Endocrinology at University of Gothenburg, Sweden in 2002. After a postdoc at Lund University, where she studied genetics of type 2 diabetes, she dedicated her research to the study of epigenetic mechanisms causing type 2 diabetes and metabolic disease. Her research group has pioneered the field of epigenetics in type 2 diabetes. They have made several groundbreaking discoveries such as genome-wide epigenetic modifications in pancreatic islets, skeletal muscle, adipose tissue and the liver from patients with type 2 diabetes compared with non-diabetic control subjects. Dr. Ling’s research group has also shown that genetic and non-genetic factors such as SNPs, exercise, diet, obesity and age alter the genome-wide epigenetic pattern in human primary tissues for type 2 diabetes. Dr. Ling is frequently invited to write review papers and book chapters and to give lectures (e.g. ADA, IDF, Keystone and Endocrine Society) on the topic ‘Epigenetics in Type 2 Diabetes’. Dr. Ling has been awarded research grants from numerous national and international foundations including the Swedish Research Council, Novo Nordisk Excellence award, EFSD-Lilly, Söderberg’s foundation and the European Commission (H2020).
